What is strictly prohibited to be taken out of Afghanistan
According to the law, it is forbidden to export cultural and historical heritage items if it does not comply with the procedures.
Prohibited items include:
- Historical and cultural values protected by the state and included in the official register of cultural heritage sites.
- Museum exhibits, archival materials, and collections, including paintings, manuscripts, and antique objects and artifacts.
- Archaeological findings and ethnographic objects related to the history, culture, and prominent figures of Afghanistan.
- Elements of monuments, architectural structures, and sculptures, including decorative details.
- Religious objects and manuscripts created before the 19th century, including scrolls, icons, and cult items.
- Antiques, including antique jewelry, precious metal and stone items, without official permission.
- Rare animals and plants listed in the Red Book of Afghanistan, as well as souvenirs made from their parts (skins, horns, bones, and feathers).
- Weapons, ammunition, explosives, and dangerous substances that may pose a threat to security.
- Narcotics, psychotropic, and potent drugs without proper documentation.
You can take it out, but only with a permit
- Antiques, antique items, and art objects can only be imported with an official permit and expert opinion.
- National musical instruments, folk art souvenirs, and craft items can only be imported if they are modern or do not belong to protected objects.
- Jewelry and precious metal and stone items can only be imported if they are modern, while antique items require a permit.
- Pets and birds can only be imported with veterinary documents and international permits.
- Seeds, plants, and saplings can only be imported with a phytosanitary certificate.
- Animal products (meat, fish, and caviar) must be accompanied by a veterinary certificate and must be consumed within the permitted quantities.
- Medications containing potent or psychotropic substances must be accompanied by a prescription and relevant documents.
Any funds or valuables exceeding the legal limits must be declared.
