Kalmak Ashuu
Issyk Kul region • Kyrgyzstan • 3529 m
The Kalmak Ashuu Pass lies on the border between Issyk-Kul and Chüy regions. It forms a natural gateway between the village of Kalmak Ashuu in the Chong-Kemin Valley and the lakeside town of Balykchy on the shores of Issyk-Kul.
From the southern side, the track climbs gradually toward the pass through rich natural landscapes, with extensive fir forests, alpine meadows, and diverse flora and wildlife. The northern side is more arid, with a steeper and more rugged ascent. The pass itself is broad and relatively flat, with no technical difficulty, making it suitable for hiking enthusiasts.
Köl Tör Lake is located about 3 km to the west, and another nearby pass on the north side of the valley provides access to the lake.
Please note that several passes in Kyrgyzstan share the name “Kalmak Ashuu,” so it is important to verify the exact location on the map.
