Suusamyr valley
Chuy Region • Kyrgyzstan • 2600 m
Suusamyr is a small valley, 150 kilometers long, which is located between three large ridges of the northern Tien Shan: Kyrgyz, Suusamyr-Too and Jumgal-Too. From ancient times this valley was a very fertile place: it is no coincidence that the Great Silk Road passed through it, and nowadays it has become one of the favorite attractions for tourists in Kyrgyzstan.
The average height of the valley is 2300 meters, so even in summer it is fresh and cool here. Two large rivers flow in the valley: Suusamyr and Western Karakol, which merge together to form the turbulent and high-water Kekemeren. The valley is remarkable for its stunning scenery: emerald green grass here neighbors with rushing rivers and majestic views of the mountains. In winter there is a skiing base, and in summer tourists are welcomed by numerous kumysole therapy centers and rest houses.
The valley is also popular with paragliders, as there are practically no trees here and nothing interferes with flights. In early summer mushroom hunters come here for the famous steppe porcini, which grows in the valley in large quantities. It is an ideal place for recreation.
Besides natural sights, there are cultural sights in Suusamyr valley. One of such sights is Kozhomkula mazar - a tomb, in the construction of which the famous Kyrgyz hero took part. On the walls of the mazar to this day have been preserved imprints of his huge palms. The mazar is located in the village of the same name Kojomkul.
