Teshik Geopark and Nature Area is a unique initiative supporting the sustainable tourism development of Naryn Oblast, in collaboration with the local tourism community of Naryn. Nestled between the dramatic ridgelines of the Song-Kul and Korgo ranges, this geological wonderland features striking rock formations, flower-filled meadows, and remarkable biodiversity, all framed by the majestic Tien Shan mountains.

The name Teshik, meaning “hole” in Kyrgyz, refers to a natural opening in the cliffs at the confluence of the Teshik and Sary-Jel rivers, located at an altitude of around 2,600 meters. The Teshik River carves two distinct canyons: the upper canyon, between 2,600 and 3,000 meters, and the lower canyon between 2,300 and 2,500 meters, separated by a wide expanse of pasture and wetlands. The river flows down to the villages of Jangy-Talap and Jergetal, nurturing the life of the region known as Teshik Jailoo.

This broader area also includes scenic tributary canyons, such as the Sulusanga Canyon, each adding to the geomorphological and ecological richness of the Teshik basin. Many high pastures are seasonally blanketed in edelweiss, and due to the relatively mild winters, some shepherd families remain in the area year-round with their herds.

The western edge of the geopark is part of the Karatal-Zhapyryk Nature Reserve, offering protection to a diverse array of wildlife, including wolves, lynx, snow leopards, red foxes, and ibex. While bears and wild sheep have not been recently observed, the area remains a critical refuge for mountain species and a dreamland for nature lovers and geologists alike.
