Money exchange in Turkmenistan
The manat is the currency of Turkmenistan. It was introduced on 1 November 1993, replacing the Russian ruble at a rate of 1 manat = 500 rubles. All notes, with exception to only the 1 and 5 manats bear a portrait of former president Saparmurat Niyazov. Currently, issued banknote are 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000
The word "manat" is borrowed from the Russian word "монета" "moneta" meaning "coin". Likewise, 'manat' was the name of theSoviet ruble in both Azeri and Turkmen.
